Will of Jospeh Langston Sr. of Johnston County, North Carolina
In the name of God Amen I Joseph Langston Sr. of the county
of Johnston in the State of North Carolina being weak in
body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed
be God and called to mind that mortality of the body
that is is appointed for all flesh once to die do this
27th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight-hundred and nine make publish satisfy establish
and ordain this and no other to be my last will and
testament – and first of all I commend my soul to God
who gave it nothing doubting but I shall acceive it – again
in the morning of the general resurrection where soul and body
will be united and my body to the dust to be buried in
a Christian like manner at the direction of my executor
hereafter named as to touching my worldly estate that
it hath blessed Almighty God to bless me with in my
life I dispose of in a manner and form following, viz first – my will
is that all my just debts and funeral charges be satisfied
and paid.
Item I give and bequeath unto my dear and well beloved wife
Basasheba Langston all the property she was possed with
before I was married to her to be disposed of as she shall
in her own judgement think proper to her and her heirs
forever also I lend to my well beloved wife Basasheba
my land and plantation that I am now possessed with during
her natural life after her decrease to belong to my son Joseph
Langston Jr. to him and his heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath
to my beloved wife Basaheba two cows and calves one of the
cows and with with a small white in her face the other red
with a white face and two heifers one of them mostly white
the other is a specked color and one work stear and as
much of my crop stock and provisions as will be sufficienct
for her support one year.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Langston Jr for my
grandsons William and Isaac McGlawhorn all the rest of My
property to be equally divided between them to them and their
heirs forever with all debts and demands due one to be equally
divided as afore stated between Joseph Langston Jr. William McGlawhon and Isaac McGlawhon to them and their heirs forever
and I do hereby make constitute and appoint establish and
ordain my trusty friend Samuel Lee Jr my executor of this
my last will and testament in witness where of I have hereby
set my hand and seal the day and year first above
written signed sealed and delivered in the present of
us
