Mary Mozelle Kerss
Services for Mary Mozelle "Auntie" Kerss, 85, of Trawick, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Trawick Church with the Reverend Cliff Horton officiating, assisted by Rev. Jean Ferraro and the Rev. Gene Webb. Burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches.
Mozelle Kerss was born Oct. 29th, 1918, in Trawick, Texas to James Jessie and Carrie Malissa Kerss. She lived most of her life in Trawick except for several years while residing in Houston, Texas where she was employed with Franklin Elementary School as the school's librarian. She returned to Trawick and was a teacher in the Nacogdoches Independent School District for a number of years. She retired from Zavalla High School as the school librarian. She was a member of the Trawick Church as well as a member of the Nacogdoches Genealogy Society. She loved Southern Gospel music and sung and attended many county conventions before her health failed her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Jessie Kerss and Carrie Malissa Kerss and her two sisters, Urieline Ferril and Catherine Kerss.
Miss Kerss is survived by her brother, James Thomas Kerss and wife Sarah of Trawick, Texas; her brother in law, James Ferril of Mt. Enterprise, Texas; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins as well as her former caregiver, while she was at her home, Thelma Scott.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Kerss, Jym Ferril, Jon Ferril, Jac Ferril, Bryan Kerss, Craig Kerss, Aaron Kerss and Taylor Weitzel. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Trawick Church and the Neill cousins.
The family requests that memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, be sent to the Trawick Church Building Fund 2086 CR 836, Nacogdoches, Texas, 75964.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches, Texas.

James R. “Locky” Lockwood, 63, of Woodlawn died Dec. 31, 2004, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon following a lengthy illness.
1 CONT He was born April 4, 1941, a son of Leland and Eugenia Lockwood.
1 CONT He is survived by two sons, Jimmy Lockwood and wife Barbie of Texico and Ty Lockwood and wife Christy of Centralia; three daughters, Lea Ann Lockwood of Mt. Vernon, Leslie Lockwood and friend Amanda Holloway of Mt. Vernon, and Carla Rae and husband David Clontz of Mt. Vernon; five grandsons, J.B., William, T.J. and Braydon Lockwood and Dalton Clontz; two granddaughters, Bethany and Lyndee Lockwood; a great-grandson, Jalen Lockwood; a brother, Morris Ford of Centralia; a half brother, Richard Ragan and wife Margaret of Wayne City; a half sister, Marilyn Coleman of North Carolina; a niece, Rhonda Hixenbaugh and husband Billy and great-nephew Colby Wood of Centralia; and special friends Cindy Vincent, Judy Hester, Wilma Braddy and Belinda Gregory. He is also survived by several cousins in the Mt. Vernon area.
1 CONT Jim was a Christian and a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church. He followed the religious teachings of Col. Theme.
1 CONT He attended Mt. Vernon High School, where he was involved in basketball and baseball.
1 CONT Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan, having played men’s fast-pitch in the Mt. Vernon area. He once had the opportunity to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals minor league. He was also actively involved as a coach and umpire for men’s and women’s fast-pitch softball. He loved to watch football, basketball, baseball and NASCAR on TV. He also loved to play pool and bowl.
One of Jim’s greatest pleasures and accomplishments was teaching area girls the aspects of fast-pitch softball, many of whom went on to receive scholarships due to his leadership and teachings. He was a great influence on many of the local youth due to his fast-pitch coaching. He was loved by all.
1 CONT At his request, he will be cremated and there will be no services. Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
1 CONT Memorials may be made in his honor to the Woodlawn or Waltonville girls high school fast-pitch softball team or the Chapman Recreation Complex in Woodlawn and will be received at the funeral home.
