Maxine wrote me a letter dated July 15, 1998 and mentioned several Cooper incidents as follows:
1 CONT John Cooper and Belle Lafarlette: "As for John leaving Belle Lafarlette, I'd rather think it was her leaving him as I have always heard it said he went crazy and they put him in the Bug House. Ha. But mama always said he wasn't crazy, he was just mean. But I think he was more crazy than mean - but he was both mean and crazy. Grandma would bring him home and mama would go over to see him and he run off when he knew she was coming. I told her I wouldn't claim him for a brother; to just go back to the crazy place and stay there. I don't ever remember seeing him but looking at his picture, I'd say he looked crazy."

Retired Carpenter
1 CONT Funeral services for Warren Cooper, 83, who died at the hospital here Tuesday, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the East Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Oba I Ford officiating. Roller Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Cooper Cemetery.
1 CONT Mr. Cooper, a retired carpenter, was a resident of Rest Haven, formerly of Route One, Gassville. He was born February 15, 1879 in Baxter County and spent his entire life here. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
1 CONT Survivors include two brothers, W. C. Cooper of Mountain Home and Frank Cooper of Holdenville, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Martha I. White of Leavenworth, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.
