None of us felt like talking so I reached into my gym bag and turned on my trusty transistor radio. Like most kids we usually listened to WLS or WCFL but lately we’d been tuning in WGRT, Chicago’s “Sound of Soul.” Same & Dave, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett had begun taking precedence over people like Strawberry Alarm Clock, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Cowsills, and The Buckinghams. It wasn’t anything personal, that’s just the way it was.
