. . . The same thing is happening, it seems to me, to kids watching The Simpsons or Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the late 1990s and early 2000s. These youngsters may not know yet who James Dean was, or Yul Brenner, or Jackie Robinson, but they have heard the names on one of these shows. They may not have heard of the Cowsills before or the Ink Spots either. Nor have they had to "duck and cover" during an a-bomb drill, and perhaps they have never eaten Pez candy. . . .
