She was taken aback. "What are you doing?" she demanded. "Don't worry. This is goign to be painless," he replied, laughing at her curious reaction. Before Casside knew it,he had put the flower in her hair, nestled abover her left ear. From that moment, she began to feel inexplicably warm feeling toward Brandon. The innocence of his gesture, and its lack of artifice, moved her. Instinctively, she started whistling the tune of the Cowsills song that Jack Hamilton sang, off-key and with made-up lyrics, to her years ago: Flowers in your fair, flowers everywhere, I love you, flower girl.
