Under the name of Lenny Kaye, he would become the leading guitarist in the Patti Smith Group (as well as the rock critic most responsible for launching the '60s garage band revival, with the Nuggets compilation). The Cowsills, prior to adding their mother to the lineup and setting the prototype for the Partridge Family, were a struggling New England garage band. Their obscure mid-60's indie single, "All I Really Want To Be Is Me," was a snarling raw rebellious adolescent folk-rocker, with a heavy Byrds influence to the guitars and P.F. Sloan/Sonny Bono flavor to the vocals and defiantly individualistic lyrics.
