Cowsills

The Cowsills are scheduled to perform at Utah State Fairgrounds Sunday.

The Cowsills, one of the nation’s top singing family groups, will present the closing public program of the Utah State Fair’s attractions. They will perform Sunday afternoon and evening in the Fairgrounds grandstand.

The Cowsills will be coming to Utah while in the midst of a controversy about how long their hair should be. They have been wearing their locks medium length. They announced awhile ago they would let it grow to appeal to the teenyboppers who dug their hippie look.

Immediately, a storm of protest was raised by some adult fans of the Cowsills. They said they liked the Cowsills as they were. The Cowsills said then they had no attention of going the long-haired route.

We called their agent-manager and he said he didn’t know how the battle had been resolved. Pictures show the family with long hair, but not as long as some groups.

Hair has played an important part in the career of the Cowsills. They made a recording of “Hair” from the production by that name and it became a million-seller disc, the second one they have had to reach that mark. Their first million-seller was “The Rain, The Park and Other Things.” They have a total of six albums to their credit.

They have appeared in two television specials and on numerous regular series such as Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Jonathan Winters, Operation Entertainment and Johnny Cash.
