. . .
This is a reluctant response to your teen idol story request. But I will confess.
When I was 11 or 12 (1968, 1969), I developed a huge crush on "Suzie" Cowsill, the youngest member of the family singing group, the Cowsills. The origin of the crush was mostly teen magazines: 16, Tiger Beat, Teen, etc.
I would go to the drugstore just to thumb through theses magazines to see if even a tiny picture of Suzie was to be foiund. If it was, I'd buy the magazine, take it home, and promptly cut out all the Suzie pictures. These would then be added to my Suzie shrine, an old lampshade in my room covered with her pictures. Only her pictures could go here, and many did.
Hey, I was 12 . . . OK? The part that makes it a complete story is that Susan and I have recently become friends - 30 years after the pre-pubescent crush and the lampshade. Now our preschoolers play together.
